Sylhet Auditorium originally began its journey under this name. After major renovations in 2001, it was renamed M. Saifur Rahman Auditorium in honor of former Finance Minister M. Saifur Rahman, widely regarded as a key architect of development in the region.

Later, during the Awami League সরকারের tenure, the venue’s name was reverted to Sylhet Auditorium and subsequently changed again to Kazi Nazrul Auditorium.

Now, the auditorium is set to regain the name of M. Saifur Rahman. The decision to restore the former name has been officially approved.

On Tuesday (March 3), after visiting the auditorium, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mir Shah Alam, confirmed the decision. He stated that formal approval for the renaming has been granted and instructed that the late M. Saifur Rahman’s name be prominently displayed in large letters on the nameplate.

An allocation of Tk 2 crore has been approved for comprehensive renovation of the auditorium.

Member of Parliament Emran Ahmad Chowdhury (Sylhet-6 constituency) was also present and thanked the State Minister, urging authorities to ensure swift implementation.
