As Eid shopping gains momentum, markets across Sylhet have become crowded. Taking advantage of the busy environment, opportunistic thieves and snatchers are also becoming active. To prevent crime, police are planning stricter security measures, including aerial surveillance using drones.
In a conversation with local media on Saturday (March 7), Md. Abdul Quddus, Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, confirmed the plan.
He said police activities have been intensified to maintain law and order during the Eid shopping season in the city. Intelligence operations have also been strengthened to monitor criminal activities.
According to the police commissioner, authorities are now preparing to use surveillance drones as an additional security measure.
He added that if necessary, drones will be deployed in the sky over Sylhet at any time. The aerial monitoring is expected to help quickly identify criminals, bring them under the law, and reduce overall crime in the city.
