Fire Incident at the Secretariat: New Committee Formed After Canceling Previous Committee ?

An 8-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate the fire incident that occurred in Building No. 

7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat, with the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs appointed as the convener. 

At the same time, the previous committee formed by the Cabinet Division on Thursday has been canceled. 

This was announced in an office order signed by Md. Imran Hossain, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Administration and Discipline Branch of the Cabinet Division. 

The other members of the committee include the Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh, the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Professor Dr. Tanvir Manjur from the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Brigadier General Mahbubur Russell, the Commandant of Dhaka Cantonment, Associate Professor. 

Dr. Md. Yasir Arafat Khan from the Department of Chemical Engineering at BUET, Associate Professor Yasir Arafat from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at BUET, and the Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, who will serve as the member-secretary of the committee. 

The terms of reference for the committee state that it will identify the source and cause of the fire incident, determine if there is any personal or professional accountability behind the fire accident, and make recommendations for preventing such incidents in the future and for the overall security of the Secretariat. 

The office order states that the committee may co-opt one or more members if necessary. 

The committee is expected to submit a preliminary report by December 30 and a full report within the next 10 working days. 

The order mentions that the previous committee formed by the Cabinet Division on Thursday has been canceled regarding this fire incident.
